Cascadia Seaweed Wins the Sustainability Award from BC Food & Beverage

“It was an honour to be showcased alongside so many incredible BC Food and Beverage producers at the awards ceremony last night,” said Desiree Dupuis, VP Sales & Marketing of Cascadia Seaweed. “What really stood out was the number of plant-based innovations being produced right here in BC!”

The room at the Cascadia Seaweed headquarters erupted with cheers and excitement when the winner of the sustainability category at the BC Food and Beverage awards was announced on Thursday, September 16.

After the busy workday, a few members of the team gathered back at the office in Sidney to watch the much anticipated BC Food and Beverage virtual awards ceremony.

Even though the company is only two years old, they are not new to the attention. Cascadia Seaweed has received recognition in Time Magazine, Forbes, BC Business, been noted as one of Greater Victoria’s 10 to Watch Businesses by Douglas Magazine, and has received Vancouver Island’s Best Ocean Products of the Year award from the Business Examiner magazine.

“It was an honour to be showcased alongside so many incredible BC Food and Beverage producers at the awards ceremony last night,” said Desiree Dupuis, VP Sales & Marketing of Cascadia Seaweed. “What really stood out was the number of plant-based innovations being produced right here in BC! We are proud to be stewards of a climate friendly diet and part of the movement towards more sustainable, plant-based options with our seaweed-based products soon to be released under our CPG food brand Kove Ocean Foods.”

Cascadia Seaweed earned the sustainability title based on their impact along the value chain, from seed cultivation to harvest, to processing and producing products. By mitigating ocean acidification, sequestering carbon, providing habitat, and utilizing the ocean to grow food and feed which reduces reliance on precious arable land, cultivating seaweed is a truly regenerative and therefore sustainable practice.

“It is important for each of us in our daily lives to consider the impact of our choices,” says Bill Collins, Chairman and founding partner of Cascadia Seaweed. “We can’t wait to change the world.”
