“In 2021 alone, Mara supplied enough DHA-rich fatty acids to the nutritional supplement and food and beverage markets to offset an estimated 7.3 billion fish (anchovy)” — Mara Renewables
Dear seaweed and microalgae investors, buyers, operators, and technologists,
Welcome to another edition of the Paxtier Report!
Apologies for the delay in sending this out; it’s been a whirlwind month traveling around Europe, absorbing insights from farmers and product developers.
Just a quick note: After considering your feedback, I’ve decided to streamline the newsletter, concentrating on the most significant updates from my perspective. Let me know your thoughts here!
Food for thought…
Europe’s harvesting season for cultivated cold-water seaweed has been in full swing these past few weeks.
During this busy period, I’ve had the pleasure of collaborating with some fantastic people, including the crews at SWMID and Atlantic Mariculture, as well as the brilliant Rhianna from SSIA, Charlie from Oceanium, and the SAMS seaweed team. I also had the opportunity to podcast at The Seaweed Company’s new processing facility unveiling in Donegal, Ireland – which I’ll be posting more about in the coming weeks!
Altogether, we’ve gathered some valuable insights which we’ll be distributing across various channels soon. While you’re waiting for that, I’d recommend reading Peter Elbourne’s reflections on farming in the region here. And if you’re interested in getting your hands on some farmed seaweed from the UK and Ireland, simply drop me a message, and I’ll connect you with the right people.
Have a great day folks.
— Peter
