Cascadia Seaweed supports the establishment of the Pacific Seaweed Growers Association
Seaweed is becoming the lifesaver of the planet, and the force behind the growing industry is located in a town just north of the British Columbia’s capital city.
The Pacific Seaweed Growers Association (PSGA) is a newly formed non-profit, member-driven, industry association that works to develop awareness around the benefits and diverse use-values for seaweed. The association will collaborate with stakeholders to develop educational material, new technology and promote innovation. The organization will also advocate to all levels of government for support of this emerging industry sector.
This emerging sector merges the benefits of both traditional farming and aquaculture to feed the planet in an environmentally sustainable manner, while creating jobs and economic sustainability for communities in both rural and urban areas. Representing growers, harvesters and a multitude of other stakeholders, with a single focus on growing the industry in the Pacific Region, the PGSA will be the unified voice of this exciting new industry.
The PGSA was formally announced in Nanaimo, B.C. on March 7, 2020 at a Seeding Summit hosted by Cascadia Seaweed. Since that time there has been a keen interest from a number of companies and organizations from British Columbia, Alaska, Washington, and California.
In a time when the world is collectively experiencing uncertainty, the PSGA is working to build an industry that will be part of our economic and societal recovery.
